Kanu 1 151.00k – Thailand

Work at Kanu I during the excavation of Hellfire Pass Cuttings comprised mainly of unloading supply barges and evacuation of sick to hospital camps down river.

The atap huts at Kanu I Camp had been built earlier by ‘D’ Force O and P Battalions on their arrival  in January 1943.

The Camp was abandoned by them in March 1943 as it was deemed valueless as a working camp.  It was however, of value as a barge landing and supply route up the side of the mountain into Kanu II and III Camps.
