Shimo Nikhe – Old Headquarters Camp

also known as Lower Nikhe Base Camp

This camp was known as ‘Assembly Camp’ and a staging camp for many columns who had marched north because it was the last camp before Shimo Sonkurai where most Australians ended their 290 kilometre march from Non Pladuk.

The first 3 kilometres were fine after leaving Shimo Nikhe but then the men found steep ascents and descents came one after another.
