Amputee Ward Burma-Thai Railway
Artificial leg belonging to Stephen Gleeson (donated to AWM) constructed for him at Changi by WO NX67447 Arthur Henry Mason PURDON of 2/30th from crashed Japanese plane following his return from Burma-Thailand Railway with ‘H’ Force in April 1944. (by end April 44 Purdon had made 43 artificial legs with many more patients waiting)

From Australia’s ‘Bulletin’ 10 December 1941- days earlier, Pearl Harbour had been attacked – PM Curtin declared ‘Australia was at War with Japan’ the Beginning of WW2 in the Pacific. The 2/4th MGB is stationed in Darwin and only weeks away from sailing to Sydney-Fremantle- Singapore
