General Description

 

Alf was one of about 90 men from 2/4th who were unable to reboard ‘Aquitania’ before she sailed from Fremantle for Singapore on 16 January 1942.  Read about AWOL Fremantle.
Alf became a POW of Japan and spent nearly 12 months in Java, at Bicycle Camp before being selected with ‘A’ Force Java Party No. 4 Williams Force to work on the Burma end of the Thai-Burma Railway.

Alf was recorded at Reptu Hospital Camp, Burma, and in Thailand at 131 km, 133 km, Kanchanaburi, Tamarkan, Chungkai, Kinsaiyok and Bangkok.

Whilst there are no records and we cant be certain where Alf worked, we assume he was at most of the above, including Reptu Hospital Camp.

 

 

 

Alfred George Williams was born 1915 Chipping Norton, Oxfordshire England to parents Walter Alfred James and Fanny Mary Elizabeth Williams.

Below:  Alf’s mother Fanny Williams died March 1954.

Alfred passed away aged 87yrs, March 31 2002, at Rockingham, WA.
He married in 1940 to Alice May Hislop.  The couple resided in Bentley.  She died in Perth 1986.
