General Description

 

Gough enlisted AIF 18 Oct 1940 was Taken on Strength to 2/4th 4 Dec 1940 to ‘A’ Company No. 6 Platoon under Commanding Officer Lt. Johnny Morrison.  He had previously served with the SA Militia.
During the fighting in Singapore 8-5 February 1942 Gough walked to RAP and collapsed.  He was diagnosed with shell shock resulting in fuctional paralysis.  He also had injury to his back.  He was evacuated to St. Josephs School then  admitted to 13 AGH at St Patricks on 16 Feb 1942.  He was admitted to 10 AGH 7 March 1942 and discharged 7 April 1942 to Selarang.
In Feb 1943 Gough was admitted AGH hospital with neuritis and discharged to unit. On 7 May 1943 he was diagnosed with hysterical paralysis

He was later at Sime Road Camp.

Gough remained in Singapore throughout the war owing to his illness.

He was recovered from Changi Gaol.

 

 

Norman was one of two sons and two daughters born 1905 at Mile End, South Australia to parents Richard Felix and Rachel Gordon Gough.
Norman Gough returned to South Australia where he was divorced in 1946 and became engaged 1947 to Katherine Stone – it is unknown if they married.

His father died Dec 1952.

 

 

 

 

Norman Angus Gough died 7 May 1981 at Carlisle aged 75 years.
