General Description
George Halley Hicks was born in the year of the Halley’s Comet, 1910. Born on 12 December 1910, in Northam, Western Australia, his father, James Hicks, was 35 and his mother, Ellen Matilda Coles, was 30. They married Northam 2 May1905.
George was one of two sons and about 5 daughters. His brother Arthur was born in 1905.
He died suddenly on 24 June 1954 at the age of 43, and was buried in Perth, Western Australia, Australia, He had been residing with his mother at 11 Stamford St, Leederville.
Soldier suffered from shell shock and was evacuated to 2/10th Australian General Hospital on 12/2/1942. Discharged to unit on 20/2/1942.
George remained Selerang until he was selected to work on Burma-Thai Railway with ‘F’ Force, Please read further,
Once in Thailand Hicks was separated from the bulk of ‘F’ Force into a smaller work party, under command of Capt Fred Harris.

Whilst at Non Pladuk Camp he was probably selected for Saigon as several other 2/4th boys were. ‘Both’ Party departed Singapore for Saigon on 2 February 1945.
He was recovered from Saigon at war’s end.
George Hicks never married. He passed away 24 June 1954 and was buried Karrakatta, Anglican ZI 106 aged on 43 years.
Hick’s grandparents were Charles Hicks and Ellen Lally.
Ellen Colles parents were Charles Coles a Teamster and his wife Harriet Jane Horton who resided at York.
