General Description

Green enlisted AIF 15 Jan 1941 and later joined 2/4th. He was formerly enlisted with 11th Militia.  He did Officer training and later joined ‘E’ Company SRB, becoming Commanding Officer No. 1 Platoon.
Lt. Harry Green was killed aged 22 years in the ambush at South-West Bukit Timah on 11 February 1942 when at close range he received a burst from a Japanese light automatic weapon. Lieutenant J. Till rushed at this light automatic section and killed the gun crew with his Thompson machine gun. Lieutenant Till was also wounded in the shoulder in his action.  Till was later KIA.

Harry’s parents ‘Jack’ Jacob Aaron Green and Mildred Alford married Kalgoorlie 1905.  Harry was sixth of about 9 children.  Mildred Green died 1964 at Subiaco aged 79 years.  His father Jack Green died Dec 1949 at Bedford.
Mill’s father Frederick Alfred Clement Arthur Alford died Kalgoorlie 1909 aged 55 years.  He had married Mary Murray in Tasmania 1873.  Mildred Alford was born on 10 September 1884 in Wynyard, Tasmania.

Harry enlisted Militia 11th Btn July 1939.
