General Description

Hickey had previously been in 25th Light Horse.
He enlisted Dec 1940.  Selected as one of 146 Reinforcements for 2/4th MGB  entrained from Northam to Fremantle to board Aquitania anchored at Gage Roads of Fremantle 15th Jan 1942.  Aquitania sailed the following day on 16th Jan. The party was virtually split in two – about half would form 2/4th’s E Coy SRB and the other was to supplement the other platoons, especially in light of he 90 well trained machine gunners left in Fremantle who sailed to Java and were taken POWs about 8 March 1942.

Hickey was placed with 6 Platoon under CO Lt Morrison.

Ray worked on Burma-Thai Raiway with Capt. Harris Party.

Hickey was selected with Both’ Party  Singapore.  Originally this party were to sail to Japan however only sailed as far as Indo-China.  This was the last party to leave to work overseas and departed Singapore Harbour on 2 February 1945 and arrived Saigon 8 February.
Stan was recovered from Saigon at the end of the war.
Stanley Raymond Hickey passed away aged 81yrs, June 4 2002.
