Alexandra Hospital (clean up party) – Singapore

The Alexandra Hospital was a British Military Hospital built for the use by the British garrison on Singapore.  The hospital is nestled in the corner of Ayer Raja and Alexandra Roads.  On Friday 13th February 1942 Japanese troops entered the rear of the hospital via Ayer Raja Road and massacred many of the staff and patients.  It is conclusive that the Commanding Officer of the 2/4th Machine Gun Battalion, Lt-Col M.J. Anketell was not involved in this horrific episode as he had already passed away at 0745 hours on that morning.
