General Description

Willams enlisted AIF 30 Jul 1940 and later joined 2/4th’s ‘A’ Company, No. 6 Platoon under C.O.s Lt Morrison and Lt. Branson and was promoted to L/Corporal.
Soldier was wounded in action at Hill 200, Ulu Pandan on 12/2/1942. He was admitted to 2/13th Australian General Hospital ex-2/9th Field Ambulance with a bayonet wound to middle finger, left hand. The finger was amputated. Discharged to unit on 22/2/1942. Admitted to A.G.H. on 26/11/1942 with fractured left elbow. Discharged to unit on 26/12/1942. Admitted to A.G.H. on 6/2/1943 again with fractured left elbow. Discharged to unit on 2/4/1943.
Williams remained in Singapore throughout the war.  He was sent with X10 Work Party towards the end of the war.

He was recovered from Changi Gaol Camp.

 

Returning from war Williams married in 1946 Geraldton to Fuchsia Lou-Cretta Herbert.
He died 25 Aug 1971 aged 63 years and was cremated at Karrakatta Cemetery. He was last residing at Victoria Park. Fuchsia died 9 Nov 2009 at Greenmount.

 

Williams departed England on ‘Ormonde’ for Fremantle on 29 Sep 1928 aged 20 years and gave his occupation as collier.
1949 & 1963 Electoral Roll has Herbert and his wife were residing at 21 Staines Street, Victoria Park and he is working as a painter.
