The Soldier's Details

Nevile enlisted AIF 30 Oct 1940 later joining 2/4th’s ‘D’ Coy 13 Platoon under Commanding Officer Lt. Wankey.

Soldier was wounded in action on 10/2/1942 receiving a shell burn to his left leg.   He remained on duty.

George left Singapore to work on the Burma-Thai Railway with ‘D’ Force Thailand, S Battalion.  He worked at Tarsau, Kanyu II, Konkoita.   George was at Nakom Nayok Camp, Thailand when the war ended.

 

George Neville’s marriage in Northam 1941 to Doreen Ann Heal.  George is attended by mate Johnny Morgan from Albany.  Both  George and Johnny worked for Timewells, Albany.  They enlisted the same day.

 

Doreen Annie Heal is daughter to Percy Heal and Annie Elizabeth Brennan who married 1914 in Northam. Doreen is the third of six children born to the Heal marriage.

Doreen’s Grandfather Richard Brennan died of TB at Wooroloo 1922 when she was a very small chlld.

Percy Heal died Northam in 1947 and Annie Neal died in 1985 Northam.

George’s father George Howard was born 1888 Queensland and died 1963 Fremantle aged 75 years.

George (Snr) enlisted WW1 in early 1915  New Zealand –  Wellington Infantry Battalion Service No. 10/1934.  He was 3 months at Gallipoli when he received a bullet wound to his face (nose) in July 1915 at Gallipoli and admitted to First Australian Hospital 9 Helipolis, Cario.   He was discharged from the Forces in November 1915 and believed to have been returned to Australia.

George Howard Nevile married Dorothy Prosser,

In 1937 George (Snr) and Dorothy are residing in Wagin, where George worked as a linesman.

 

George returns to his sporting interests of pre-war days.

In 1950, George and Doreen are visited by her mother and brother.

 

In 1954 George Edward and Doreen are residing Champion Street, Albany where George is working as a shop assistant.

 

George Nevile died very young in 1957 aged 38 years.

We believe Doreen did not remarry and continued to reside in Albany until her death in Albany 2006. In 1963 she was residing 18 Humphries Street, Albany.
