General Description

 

 

Campbell and Joe McGinty were good mates.

Campbell remained in Singapore throughout the war.  He was recovered from Changi on 4 September 1945, arrived Fremantle on ‘Strathmore’.

His current army records show he was hospitalised most of the time from when he arrived home to his discharge 31 May 1946.  He was charged with being AWL from hospital from 16 February 1946 to 25 February 1946 and faced a Court Martial, given a reprimand and forfeited 9 days pay.

 

He departed London, England 19 August 1926 aged 20 years on ‘Benalla’ for Fremantle.  He provided his occupation at ‘farming’ and his last known address was Wigotownshire, Scotland.

Campbell’s father also named Randolf Stuart Campbell, died four years after his son’s birth.  His mother died in 1951.

 

Campbell married in 1933 Wyalkatchem to Jean Mavis Shearer.

In the 1936 Electoral Roll the Campbells resided at Suburiton Rd, South Perth.

In 1939 Campbell joined 28th Btn Militia, as a L/Cpl he then enlisted AIF.

Whilst her husband was away from 1942-1945, Jean Campbell moved from Hammond Street, Palmyra to C/- Mrs Rennick, Dowerin.

 

The Campbell family moved interstate after the war.  They were found residing at East Doncaster, Victoria in 1954 Electoral Roll.

Jean Campbell continued to reside at East Doncaster through mid 1960s.  Randolf Stuart Campbell died 3 August 1962 Pirron Yallock, Victoria.  Jean Campbell died in 1999 Mildura, Victoria.

It is believed the Campbells had a family of 4 or 5 children.
