General Description
Norm enlisted AIF October 1940. He later joined 2/4th’s C Coy HQ, promoted to Lance Corporal under Major Colin Cameron.
As a POW he left Singapore with ‘D’ Force Thailand D Battalion to work on the Burma-Thai Railway.

The only Camps mentioned in his information are Kanu 2 where they started work on 25 April 1943. Then Chungkai which is a Hospital Camp and he was probably evacuated there, ill from the Railway. He was recovered from Tamuang Camp at the end of the war. He was fortunate not be selected to work in Japan.
Norm married 6 February 1937 Perth to Thelma Matthews born Bunbury 1916 to Herbert and Amy Matthews. Thelma and Norm had a family of four children.

Norm’s parents were John Henry Bradshaw of York and Mary Ann McKeon b. Lancashire, England. They had a family of three sons and one daughter. Norm was the youngest son.
Norm’s father died in March 1965 and his mother Mary died 1955 Brisbane.
Norm’s father John Henry Bradshaw was son to Amos Bradshaw of York. He married Ellen Kidd Beverley 1862 and they had four children. Amos then remarried Mary Ann Donovan in 1883 and had a further family of about four Children.
Amos Bradshaw died 25 mJune 1916, York.

‘Another of our old colonists was removed from our midst at an early hour on Sunday morning in the per son of Mr. Amos Bradshaw, who had attained his 76th birthday on the Friday previous. The deceased had conducted the business of a wheelwright for many years in York, and the work turned out from his estab lishment had gained a high reputation from all corners of the State. He was twice married, and at the time of death was a widower. He leaves a family of four sons and four daugh ters, and many grandchildren. The deceased had been in failing health for some years past, and on more than one occasion during that period his life simply hung in the balance. The immediate cause of death was cardiac degeneration.’

Norman passed away 7 January 1989 at Dianella aged 72 years. Thelma died 8 August 1992 in Perth.
