Brief Summary of 2/4th MGB WW2 – Approximately 960 men formed the Battalion.
88 Men were AWOL at Fremantle 16 Jan 1942 when ‘Aquitania’ sailed for Singapore.  They were later sailed from Fremantle, however were were diverted from their original destination of Singapore to Java and were not involved in fighting Singapore.
555 SURVIVED with 2/4th TO RETURN TO AUSTRALIA (8 were evacuated before war broke out and 3 escaped to Australia via Sumatra and Ceylon – later joining other battalions.)
401 NEVER RETURNED (including Fred Bugg d. Adelaide 29 September 1941 and Robert Haldane drowned Sydney Harbour 9 January 1942.) These men were KIA, DOW, Executed, Died of Illness, Drowned South China Sea.
