General Description

Thomas James (known as Lance) Barnett enlisted with AIF Dec 1940.   He joined ‘B’ Coy HQ under CO Capt Bunning.  Lance was promoted to Transport Corporal 9 Feb 1942.
As a POW in Singapore he was selected to work on Burma-Thai Railway with ‘D’ Force Thailand Capt Fred Harris Party.

Whilst at Non Pladuk Camp, Thailand ‘Lance’ Barnett would have been selected to work in Saigon, along with several boys from 2/4th.  They left Singapore on 2 February 1945.

He was recovered from Saigon at wars end.  Mostly they had been working on Saigon Docks.

Lance was b. Rose Park, SA 1915 to parents John James ad Essie Barnett.

He married 1949 to Judith Mayo Clarke.

In the Electoral Roll 1958 Lance was residing Molloy St, Bunbury, he was a garage Proprietor with wife Judith Mayo.
He married a second time about 1961 Canning to Joan Mary Gadsdon.
His mother Essie Barnett remarried 1937 Canning to Charles H. Coops.  Essie & Charles lived in Kenwick.  His mother Essie died at Thornlie in 1980.
Lance Barnett died in 9th May 1991, Kalamunda aged 76 years.  He was buried Karrakatta Cemetery.
