General Description

8 Platoon:  R E Carruthers, D N Russell, G H Edwards, J A Taylor (A Coy HQ)  and L H Lee.

 

 

With Platoon 8 under the command of MacKinnon, Ray was KIA on 11 February 1942 aged 22 years with three others. Sgt and second-in-command Richard Sandilands, Ronald Smith and Don Day were withdrawing from Mandai Road.

Ray was the eldest of eight children born to James and Lucy Carruthers.

Officially the Carruthers family were informed at end of Marc 1946 of Ray’s death on 11th Feb 1942.
