General Description

King enlisted August 1940 and later joined “C” Coy as a driver under CO Colin Cameron.
Following Surrender King was accommodated at Selarang, Jahore Bahru and Adam Park prior to departing Singapore to work on Burm-Thai Railway with ‘D’ Force Thailand, V Battalion under CO Alf Cough. V Battalion suffered a high number of deaths.
King was at non Pladuk, Kanchanaburi, Kinsaiyok, Hospital at Nacompaton, back to Kinsaiyok, Linson Wood Camp, Hospitalised at Non Pladuk, and finally sent to work at Bangkok on the go-downs from where he was recovered at the end of war.
He was flown to Singapore and returned to Fremantle on hospital Ship Karoa.
James King was one of six children born to parents Lawrence Patrick King and Blanche Maude Cockman who married Perth in 1906. There were two sons and four daughters, James younger brother Roy also enlisted WX15108.
King m. Oct 1947 to Georgina Bryson Allen. They had three children. Georgina d. Jan 1973.
It is believed James King remarried May 1982.
James passed away aged 93, December 12 2004, at Bedford, WA.
