General Description
Burslem gave his NOK as Mrs L. Lawson, Denver City Hotel, Coolgardie from where he enlisted. He had been working as a miner.
He was a member of the Buffaloes, Changi Lodge, Singapore.
George also has his name included on the Westonia enlistments.
Burslem enlisted From Coolgardie August 1940 and later joined 2/4th’s ‘C’ Coy 10 Platoon under CO Lt. Wilson.
Following the Surrender at Singapore Burslem was a POW at Selarang Camp and Baracks Changi before being selected to leave Singapore with a large contingent of 2/4th POWs to work on the Burma-Thai Railway with ‘D’ Force Thailand S Battalion in 1943. Please read further
Their first camp was Tarsau before heading to Konyu 2 arriving 25 April 1943.
We believe George may have been evacuated to Chungkai Hospital Camp at some time, prior to being sent to Tamuang Camp. It was here he was selected with the Linson Wood Camp.

Little is known of George’s life after the war. Prior to enlisting he was unfortunately found to have been charged several times for petty theft, vagrancy, etc.
We have been unable to locate any family and his enlistment provides little clue as to who George Burslem was!
In 1946 George gave his contact address at 102 Kerr Street, Fitzroy, Victoria.
