General Description

Lambie enlisted at Claremont into AIF Dec 1940 and later joined 2/4th’s ‘C’ Company No. 12 Platoon.

He was wounded at Ulu Pandan (where there was a heavy loss of life and many injured) and admitted to 13 AGH 12 Feb 1942 with shrapnel wound (hand grenade) to left hip and back, right buttock. Discharged to unit 23 Feb 1945.

As a POW in Singapore he was at Adam Park 4 April 42 to 30 Dec 1942 and worked at Jahore Bahru.
Lambie left Singapore to work on the Burma-Thai Railway withD’ Force Thailand S Battalion and was one a large number of 2/4th men in this group to work in the Hellfire Pass region.
He was in Thailand 15 March 1943 to July 1944 at Bampong, Kanchanaburi, Tarsau, K2, Hintock, Kinsaiyok and when the rail was completed, sent to Tamuang Camp to recuperate and ‘fatten up’ before he was selected by the Japanese as being fit to work in Japan.
The were were entrained from Thailand back to Singapore and accommodated at River Valley Transit Camp to await a ship to Japan.

The POWs arrived at Yamine 10 Sept 1944 to May 1945 where they worked in the copper mine.  He was sent to Niihama May 45 to end of war where he worked in the factory.

On arrival in Perth from Darwin on an ANA airliner he was admitted to 110 (P)MM – Hollywood Repatriation Hospital on 9 Oct 1945 with another 2/4th boy, Bob Whitfield.

 

 

Mick Lambie arrived  from London, UK to Fremantle Western Australia 26 Sept 1926 on Benalla aged 6 years with his father who was a miner, mother Helen (nee Airnes) and siblings Gavin 4 years, Daniel 2 years and Elizabeth 2 years.

His parents married 1918 at Lark Hall, Lanarkshire, Scotland.

Mick’s father died in Perth 1971.

On his enlistment details he gave his occupation as horse driver. His NOK was his father Andrew (Snr) and they resided 60 Ashburton Street, Victoria Park. Mick was aged 19 years 10 months.
In 1936 Electoral Roll Mick’s parents were residing Mary Street, Collie his father was working as a labourer and Mick was labouring at Allanson.  By 1939 the family had moved to 60 Ashburton Street, Victoria Park.
After the war Mick married about 1948 to Mary Iris Franklin in Perth. In 1958 Electoral Roll, Mary and Mick were residing Collie where he worked as a carpenter.  In 1968, 1977, 1980 Electoral Roll Mick was working as a carpenter.  He and Mary were residing 22 Princess Road, Balga.
Mick passed away aged 82, November 4 2002, at Mandurah, WA. His cremation service was held at Pinnaroo.
