Bill Hicks was wounded in action on 15/2/1942 at Buona Vista.  Admitted to 2/9th Field Ambulance 15/2/1942 with a shrapnel wound to median nerve of left arm.  Soldier was transferred to 2/13th Australian General Hospital on 16/2/1942.  Discharged to unit on 27/4/1942.  To Kranji Hospital ex-Changi Gaol Camp on 25/5/1944.

Bill was seconded to W Party Singapore.

On his return to WA Bill was sent to Lady Mitchell Convalescent  Hospital as his eyesight had suffered due to lack of vitamins.

Bill Hicks died in 1982.

John (Jack) Hicks was born September 1874 Nerring, Victoria.  He married May (Linda) Hines at Boulder in about 1902.

 

 

The family resided at King Street Boulder, where Jack Snr was a miner. The family are recorded residing at Boulder in the 1912 and 1919 Electoral  Rolls.  Jack Snr. died 15 March 1922 aged 47 years. He was buried at Boulder Cemetery in the Anglican section E No. 402.    His death lefl his wife Linda with two young children to take care of, William was about 9 years old and he had another brother Jack.  Jack Snr was buried at the Boulder New Cemetery.
Later that same year, William’s brother Jackie died in October 1922 in Adelaide, SA. This was another devastating blow for William and his mother.
Linda remarried to Arthur H. Pascoe about 1923.
Bill’s enlistment records state his NOK was Arthur Pascoe, Stepfather.

We have not been able to find Linda or Arthur’s death records.

 

Bill married Eileen Elizabeth Spouse in 1946 at Como.
In 1949 and 1958 Electoral Roll Bill and Eileen are residing 20 Anketell St, South Perth, and his is working as a gardener.
In 1963, 1968 Electoral Roll Bill and Eileen are residing 109 Lockhart St, South Perth.  Bill is working as a gardener.
In 1977, 1980  Bill is on his own, residing 109 Lockart St, now Como.
Bill Hicks died at Como 11 Nov 1982 aged 68-69 years and was cremated Karrakatta Cemetery.
Eileen died 4 Dec 1975 aged 58 years.
