General Description

Frank was 32 years 8 months old when he enlisted 15 Jan 1941.  His family lived at East Beverley.

 

Frank Richard WARE

 

 

 

Frank was one of the number of 2/3rd who disembarked at Batavia (Java) from Middle East on 18 Feb 1942, reported missing at Java on 07 Mar 1942.  They were taken POWs of Japan about 8 March when the Dutch East Indian Forces capitulated to Japan.
He left Java with Dunlop Force Java Part No, 6, with CO Weary Dunlop to sail to Singapore then a rail journey into Thailand before reaching the Burma-Thai Railway to work.  Please read further 

 

Below:  List of POWs who died at Tarsau Hospital Camp, he would have been evacuated from the railway to Tarsau.  He left Java with a work party to work on the Burma-Thai Railway. Frank died 1 Oct 1943 of dysentery.  His body would have been interned and reburied at Kanachanaburi War Cemetery after the war ended.

Frank’s parents Alfred and Johanna Ware married in SA 1893  and came to WA with several older children and settled, farmed east of Beverley.  They had a large family, Frank was the youngest surviving son of 13 children.
Below:  Frank’s father Alfred b. Morphett Vale, SA 1850  died in 1947 aged 96 years.

 

 

Below:  Frank’s mother Joanna Agnes Ware (nee Kearney) was born in SA to Irish parents d. Sept 1955 aged 92 years.
