General Description

Review WX10712 Cyril Brockman’s military records held at NAA.

Above:  Cyril Brockman’s record at Hintok’s cemetery

Private Cyril Brockman was born in Eelup WA on 18 May 1910 and enlisted in Claremont, joining the 2/3MG in the Middle-East as a reinforcement on 21/1/42. His nickname “Pinkie”; probably due to a missing little finger on his left hand.
Although the original companies were (more or less) aligned by state (WX men D-Coy), the reinforcements were posted where they were needed. Cyril was posted to A-Coy.
Familiar movement: captured Java, Java Party 6 with Weary Dunlop to Hintok.
He was evacuated to Hintok River camp in a very bad condition.
Weary Dunlop wrote
“I saw many sick with Ewan (Corlette), amongst these the aboriginal, ‘Pinkie Brockman’, terribly emaciated with dysentery following cholera and a large mass in the lower abdomen, obviously dying”.
He passed away the next day on 13 August 1943. Buried in Kanchanaburi Grave 1.Q.2-78.
