Lt Terry Needs was a POW recovered from Batavia at the end of the war.




Needs was a high-achieving athlete prior to the war. He attended Scotch College and represented the School at the Inter School Athletics. In 1934 he won the 90 yds hurdles Under 16, in 1935 he won the Open Broad Jump. In 1938 he won the quarter mile race and broke the State Record. Needs was drescribed as a most versatile athlete and was rarely beaten in sprints, hurdles or jumping events.
He married in Oct 1945. Terry Needs planned on moving to Tasmania.
