General Description

Review WX4085 Harold Cain’s military records held at NAA.

Harold George Cain was b. 1 Nov 1917.  He was 27 years old and a 6′ tall farmer from Brookhampton when he enlisted with 25th Light Horse Regiment 9 Mar 1939.  He was discharged to AIF 4 Jun 1940.
Cain was discharged from AIF on his return from ME on 29 Jan 1943.

 

 

He was son of Owen Henry Cain and Dorothy Julia Curtis who married 1914 Brookhampton.  Owen Cain died in 1972 and is buried at Donnybrook.  Dorothy Cain died 1972 and is also buried in Donnybrook.

Harold had one brother William Henry Cain 1915-1978, and one sister Charlotte Audrey Cain 1920-1997.
Please note:  HAROLD GEORGE CAIN (Son of Owen Cain)  IS FIRST COUSIN TO HARRY CAIN of 2/4th.
Owen’s younger brother is RICHARD CAIN who is father to Harry Cain of 2/4th and lost his life at Singapore 1942.

 

Harold first married 15 March 1941 to  Margaret Jean Robinson.  They had a son (Ronald Gregory Cain d. 2010) and daughter.  Margaret Cain died 1958 aged 38 years.
Marriage records show Harold remarried  1953 in Perth to Alma Vecarea Ripley.
Harold died 16 July 1980 at East Hamilton Hill aged 62 years and was buried at Fremantle Cemetery.  Alma Cain d. 1992 Fremantle.
He has a plaque at the West Australian Garden of Remembrance readings:
