Changi Chocos

Did you know the men who remained in Singapore throughout the war were fondly referred to as ‘Changi Chocos’ – which they hated?
Murray Cheyne mentioned this in his response to a niece who lived in England.  She had written asking him a series of questions.

Murray Cheyne left Singapore with ‘A’ Force for Burma.  When the rail link was completed he was selected to work in Japan with Rakuyo Maru party.  Whilst waiting in Singapore for their ship, Murray became ill with pneumonia and was left behind in Changi Sept 1944.  He remained in Singapore till the end of the war.
