CRANBROOK WAR MEMORIAL

There are 29 plaques from WW1 and WW2 attached to the rear wall. Amongst these are two 2/4th men, Andy Toovey and E.G. Moir
WX15905 Pte Edward George MOIR known as TED/TEDDY – b. donnybrook to McLaren John and Edith Alice Moir. Teddy enlisted 20 August 1941, joined ‘D’ Coy 15 Platoon. Captured at Singapore. Worked as POW on Burma-Thai Railway in Thailand. He died at Kuii POW Camp of malaria and dysentery 1 Oct 1943 aged 32 years.
WX15897 Pte Francis Andrew TOOVEY known as ANDY – b. Albany to Henry Weir and Harriett Rose Toovey. Enlisted 20 August 1941 and joined 14 Platoon. Seriously wounded during battle to save Singapore February 1942. As a POW remained hospitalised at Roberts Barracks Hospital and Changi and Changi Gaol Camp Hospital until end of war.
Returned to Australia on hospital ship Oranje 10 Oct 1945. Transferred to hospital where he died one month later on 9 November 1945 aged 27 years.
