Below:  Cecil William Fowler Phillips, father to Jim, died 2 February 1945.  He had not learnt of Jim’s death (Singapore Feb 1942).

 

Jim’s mother died Subiaco 28 Aug 1975 aged 71 years.

Jim’s parents Cecil William Fowler Phillips born 1883 South Australia married Rosalind Martha Huckstep born in England at Northam 1917.

 

 

Cecil (Snr) worked as a butcher in Northam until 1934 when he was declared bankrupt.  The couple had two children ‘Jim’ Cecil Allen  (named after Rosalind’s mother Elizabeth Huckstep (nee  Allen) who died England 1902 and his sister Irene (Rene) who was born in 1921.
Rosalind Huckstep arrived WA in 1911 aged 21 years on board ‘Australia’ from England.
Cecil enlisted AIF 18 Dec 1940, later joining 2/4th and HQ Company No. 2 Platoon Anit-Aircraft.  He was one of two Sergeants for 2 Platoon.
Both Phillips and Bill Innes were KIA 12 Feb 1942, as was Platoon 2’s Commanding Officer, Lt. Royce.
