Jim’s parents Cecil William Phillips born 1883 South Australia married Rosalind Martha Huckstep born in England at Northam 1917.  Cecil (Snr) worked as a butcher.  The couple had two children Jim and his sister Rene.

Cecil enlisted AIF 18 Dec 1940, later joining 2/4th and HQ Company No. 2 Platoon Anit-Aircraft.  He was one of two Sergeants for 2 Platoon.

Both Phillips and Bill Innes were KIA 12 Feb 1942, as was Platoon 2’s Commanding Officer, Lt. Royce.
