General Description

Reed enlisted AIF 18 Oct 1940 later joined 2/4th MGB’s ‘A’ Company No. 5 Platoon as did John Ramsbottom (later changed to Lane).  He was Batman to Learmonth.
Prior to enlisting with AIF Red had spent 1 1/2 years with the Militia.
Reed was wounded in action on 15.2.1942 at Chinese Cemetery Hill. He was admitted to 2/9th Field Ambulance with shrapnel wounds. Both legs were amputated and soldier died at 0500 hours on 16.2.1942. Funeral service was conducted by Reverend G. Chambers from 35th Light Anti Aircraft Regiment, Royal Artillery.
Richie Reed was 23 years old when he died 16th February, 1942.

Jane Reed died 1962 and Stephen Reed died 1971.
