The Soldier's Details

Griffith enlisted AIF 23 July 1941 and soon after joined ‘A’ Coy Headquarters as Cook and Corporal.  He was Taken on Strength to Woodside Camp, South Australia.

Keith was wounded in action at Buona Vista and admitted to 2/13th AGH from 2/10th Field Ambulance with shrapnel wounds to his wrist, left knee and left thigh.  He was discharged to his Unit on 22 February 1942.

He was selected with the first work party to leave Singapore – ‘A’ Force Burma Green Force No. 3 Battalion.  They would ultimately be working on the Burma end of the railway after working on repairs and enlarging three airfields in lower south west Burma.

Keith was at Victoria Point, Ye, Kendau, Reptu 39 km, Thetkaw, Meiloe and Aungganaung before being moved south when the rail link was completed at end of 1943 with all the POWs by the Japanese to Thailand.  Tamarkan was one of the large POW Camps.  From here he was sent Bangkok, Nacompaton and was recovered from Nakom Chassi.

Keith’s parents Mark Griffith and Ada Agnes Louisa Bennet married in Bunbury 1921.

Mark Griffith died Bunbury April 1963 and Ada died Sep 1962.

Keith married about 1947 in Perth to Merle Louise James.

In 1954 Electoral Roll Keith was working as a pastry cook and residing Bunbury with Merle.

In 1968 and 1980 Electoral Roll Keith has moved to Clematis Road, Woodlands with Merle and continues to work as a Pastry cook.

Keith died 7 May 2001 and was cremated at Karrakatta Cemetery. Merle died March 2020.
