Guildford War Memorial where there are too many names of WW1 dead.

In comparison, WW2 inscriptions is very small in number.  The following men are from 2/4th MGB:


WX9178 STREET, JACK OLIVER was KIA 15 February 1942 Buona vista, Singapore during battle for Singapore.  Jack was 30 years of age and had enlisted AIF October 1940.  He later joined 2/4th Machine Gun Battation as a driver with ‘A’ Company.



WX10012 WORTH, WALTER GEORGE enlisted December AIF 1940, later joining 2/4th MGB as a signaller with Headquarters Company.  As a POW in Singapore, Walter was selected with ‘F’ Force Thailand to work on Burma-Thai Railway.

He died of Cholera at Kami Sonkurai Camp, 28 August 1943 aged 31 years.  He had married Millicent Harriet Dedman in 1941.  He had been employed at Smutterman Flour Mills.
