16 Feb 1942 ‘Aquitania’ sails from Fremantle headed for Battle for Singapore with 8th Division.

Published in newspaper 1949 – for Tom Fury who died in an Allied bombing raid whilst a patient at Thanbyuzayat Hospital, Burma from his mother Sarah Fury (nee Fyche). Tom aged 36 years, was a father of 3 sons, and Sarah’s firstborn child.
Tom was a hurdle jockey in his younger days and later worked as a miner in Kalgoorlie.

Wakanurie, Japan. 14 September 1945. After being liberated, former allied Prisoners of War (POWs) from the Niihama POW camp line up to be deloused, fed, clothed and interrogated before being shipped home. They were later put on a hospital ship for Okinawa, then on to Manila. Amongst these prisoners may have been NX6957 Private E Robinson, 2/20th Battalion, AIF, a POW who was in Changi POW Camp, Singapore, before being sent to a camp in Japan.
