George Smith of Pingelly was with the 2/18 Battalion.
He fought in the Malayan campaign, was taken prisoner by the Japanese when Singapore fell and spent almost three years in the infamous Changi prisoner-of-war camp.
George and five other veterans (including Peter Dimopoulos) returned to Singapore on February 15, 2012 attending 70th anniversary of the Fall of Singapore (George shared a room with Peter Dimopoulos).
